Michael F. Gates, 68, of Quincy died December 12, 2018. He was the loving husband of 47 years to Frances M. (Foley) Gates.
The second of four children born to the late James and Patricia (Doherty) Gates, Mike served his country with honor in the US Army during the war in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Nickerson Post 382 of the American Legion, and worked as a Teamster, driving with Local 25 for many years. His favorite times were those spent with his family and closest friends, especially in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where camping and fishing were relished pastimes.
In addition to his wife Fran, he leaves behind his loving children Michael Gates and his wife Jennifer (Clancy) of Quincy, Loren McBride and her husband Daniel of
Norwell, Brian Gates and his wife Angela (Maietta) of Weymouth and Kathlyn Reed and her husband Jason of Amherst NH. Cherished grandfather of Thomas, Ella and Henry Gates, Jonathan McBride, Abigail and Charlotte Reed, and Leah Gates. Dear brother of Patrick Gates and his wife Theresa of So Boston, Margaret Visconti and her husband Mark of Merrimack NH, and the late James Gates. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, brothers and sisters-in-laws and dear friends.
Visiting Hours Tuesday December 18 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Hamel Lydon Chapel and Cremation Service of Massachusetts, 650 Hancock St, Wollaston. Funeral Mass Wednesday Dec. 19 at 10:00am in Sacred Heart Church, 328 Hancock St, North Quincy. Interment will be private.
