Alice Elizabeth McCarthy, 86, of South Boston died Thursday October 10, 2024, at Southwood at Norwell Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. Alice was one of eleven children. She was born in Lowell and raised in South Boston where she was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of South Boston High School. After graduating Alice began her career as an engineer developing prototype electronic boards for several Boston area electronics firms retiring at the age of 75.
Alice loved Irish music and dancing. She excelled at arts and crafts, making wonderful gifts for her many nieces and nephews. One of her favorite hobbies was entertaining her 10 brothers and sisters and their families. After her retirement she became a world traveler. One of her favorite places was closer to home, visiting the Irish Village of West Yarmouth every year. Alice will be forever remembered as a kind and generous outgoing woman.
Alice was predeceased by her parents Charles and Ruth McCarthy. She was also the sister of the late Edward, Robert, John, and David McCarthy, Rose Dority, Jean Loranger and Joy McLeod.
Alice is survived by her brother Norman McCarthy and her sisters Nancy Haley and Linda Doucette. She is the sister-in-law of Jane McCarthy and Rita McCarthy as well as many Nieces, Nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews. Alice is also survived by several loving and devoted friends.
A memorial service and a celebration of life will be held at a later date that will be announced.
