Alice Skehan, 77, of Scituate formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026.
Born in Lissarda, County Cork, Ireland on May 23, 1948, Alice came to the United States at the age of 18. She met and married Richard Skehan of Roslindale, Massachusetts and they raised their four children in Quincy, Massachusetts.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Colleen and her husband Mike of Weymouth, Erin and her husband Josh of Cumberland, Maine; William Skehan of Portland, Maine; and Kerry Skehan of Austin, Texas. Alice was the proud and cherished “Snake Nana” to Luke and Matthew Tempesta and Penelope Houghton. She is also survived by her sisters Christine Murphy of Wilmington, Esther O’Callaghan of County Cork, Ireland; and Mary Looney of County Cork, Ireland. Alice was predeceased by her brother John; her sisters Anne and Kathleen; her brother in law Dick Murphy; and her parents, Kathrine Lehane Desmond and Humphrey Desmond. For more than 40 years, Alice worked as a dedicated nurses aide, caring for others with compassion and dignity. Her work ethic and devotion to helping people remained steadfast until her retirement at the age of 75.
Alice found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, tending to her garden, and relaxing with her favorite baking shows.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to Alice’s Memorial Mass on Saturday May 23, 2026 at 10:00am in St. Joseph Church, 544 Washington St, Quincy.
