Barbara A. Berg, 82, of Duxbury, formerly of Quincy, died October 1, 2025 following a period of declining health. She was the only child born to the late Herbert R. and Ethel J. (Johnson) Berg.
Born and raised in Quincy, Barbara was a 1960 graduate of Quincy High School where she played basketball and, later, coached the girl’s basketball team. It was during her time at Quincy High that she developed a life-long love of sports, and for many years was a fan and season ticket holder of the Boston Celtics.
Barbara attended Northeastern University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1965. Following graduation she accepted a position with MIT’s Aero-Elastic and Structures Research Lab and later worked for many years as a software engineer for Multisystems Corp.
In 1986 Barbara moved from Quincy to Braintree before later moving further south to Plymouth, where she lived from 1995 until 2017 when she moved to Baypath Rehabilitation
and Nursing Center in Duxbury.
A life-long, active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Quincy, Barbara played on -and later coached- the church’s girls basketball team. She also served as the chair for worship and music, as both superintendent and teacher in the Sunday school program, and served as treasurer of the finance committee. She was a lifelong leader in the church choir and many cherished her soaring high notes from the choir loft and in cantata performances. Barbara also led the bell choir for many years.
She will be greatly missed by her large and loving church family as well as her many dear friends including Emma Anderson of Plymouth.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend her funeral service Saturday October 11, 2025 at 11:00am in Faith Lutheran Church, 201 Granite St, Quincy, with Rev. Niki Harvell, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be held in the church one hour prior to the start of her funeral, beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow in her family plot at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
