It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bien Tang Nguyen, who passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at the age of 89 in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Born in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on January 15, 1937 to Nguyen Van Dai and Nguyen Thi To, Bien proudly served in the Vietnamese Army before immigrating to the United States in 1980, where he built a life rooted in hard work, discipline, and devotion to his family. He worked for many years as a machinist, a profession that reflected his patience, precision, and ability to fix just about anything.

To those who knew him best, he was a man of routines and standards. He liked things done a certain way. He labeled everything, dated everything, documented family milestones, and never forgot the birthdays of any of his seven children or fourteen grandchildren. His beautiful handwriting could be found on countless notes, labels, and keepsakes throughout the house.

He was known for being strict and passionate, but those who loved him understood that his determination came from caring deeply. He believed in doing things well, taking responsibility, and solving problems himself. If something was broken, he would rather fix it than replace it.

His family was the center of his life. Although he was not one to express his emotions with many words, his love was always clear in his actions. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, made countless sacrifices so his children could have opportunities he never had, and quietly supported every one of his children and grandchildren.

He loved food, especially meals shared with family. He enjoyed cooking, trying new dishes, watching Vietnamese documentaries, and gathering everyone around the table. One of his greatest joys was simply having the whole family together. Even as the head of the household, he was usually the last person to eat, making sure everyone else had been served first.

More than anything, he hoped his family would remain close. The family home was more than a house to him. It was a place where generations gathered, celebrated special occasions, shared meals, and created memories. His greatest wish was that those traditions would continue for years to come.

He is survived by his sister, Nguyen Thi Hong Loan; her three children, Dang Minh-Tri, Dang Hue-Minh, and Dang Thi Bach-Hue; his seven children, Phuong Nguyen, Diana Nguyen, John Nguyen, Lilyana Nguyen, Susana Nguyen, Lena Gabucan, and Bruce Nguyen; his fourteen grandchildren, Kim Do, Kevin Nguyen, Tiffany Tran, Samantha Tran, Katelyn Nguyen, Cory Nguyen, Alyssa Nguyen, Emily Nguyen, Emma Nguyen, Theo Gabucan, Joselle Gabucan, Phoenix Nguyen, Aria Nguyen, and Nora Nguyen; and his children's spouses.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock Street, Quincy. A private Buddhist rites ceremony for the family, conducted by the monks of Chua Viet Nam Temple, will begin at 9:00am.

Casket closing ceremonies will begin at 11:00am, followed by a funeral procession passing by Bien Tang’s residence in Quincy before proceeding to Blue Hill Cemetery for interment.

Following the interment, family and friends are invited to the family residence at 99 Norton Road in Quincy for a Buddhist program and time of fellowship. A Dharma talk and blessing led by the monks will take place before a meal is served.
