Caro Geneva (Boyd) Foley, 92, of Quincy, MA, concluded her life’s journey on May 9, 2026, after a long illness.
She is survived by her children, Stanley Lopata of Texas, Frances Lothrop of Weymouth, Robert Lopata and his wife Kathy of Weymouth; and by her beloved sister, Louise Brewer Stearns of Florida. She was a loving grandmother to Terri DeOliveira, Amy Collier and her husband Richard, Brian Lopata and his wife Kristine, Jordan Lopata, Meaghan Brazer and her husband Timothy, Samantha Lopata, and Charlie O’Connell. She was a proud great‑grandmother to Anakin, Lukas, Daniel, Jordan, Ava, Layla, Penelope, and Elliott; as well as an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sons, John Edward Lopata and Brian Benjamin Lopata; her husband, William Foley; her siblings Chester, Albert, Margaret, Warren, Catherine, Harriet, Charlie, and Earl; and her parents, Chester and Mary (Thompson) Boyd.
Caro’s parents raised her and her nine siblings in Dorchester. Coming from a large Irish family, she proudly called herself a “scrapper.” She had a sharp tongue, a quick wit, and a heart that never hesitated to help anyone in need. She raised five children while settling in Quincy and worked passionately as a home health aide. She loved reminiscing about her time working at the Ritz‑Carlton in Boston, where she met many celebrities.
She delighted in sharing stories of growing up during the Great Depression and World War II. Throughout her life, Caro was always on the move, often hard to track down. Whether visiting the beaches of Kennebunk and Ogunquit, enjoying extended getaways to Hawaii, or heading out on countless cruises. She especially loved the shows in Branson, Missouri, the music capital she could never get enough of.
Caro gave generously of her time, volunteering in the Artery kitchen alongside Marie and Joel. She never needed to be asked twice to teach line dancing there, and she shined as a singer and dancer in their annual Showtime performances. She enjoyed music, movies, and traveling with her love and companion, Jim Clark, and she adored his nephew Tommy.
Even as many of her childhood friends passed on, Caro continued to build community. She took up coloring classes at the Artery, where she lived for 40 years, and worked part‑time at Walmart in Quincy for 16 years, retiring at 80 years young. She cherished her neighbor and friend Beverly, and dear friends Rita, Ellie, Debbie, and so many more.
Her family is forever grateful to Tina, Caro’s Elder Services companion, for her endless patience and love. Caro warmed up to her instantly after discovering Tina was a Dorchester girl too — maybe even a scrapper herself. Caro’s life was grand.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date at Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Caro’s memory to: Old Colony Hospice & Palliative Care 321 Manley St. West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
