Charles McGrath Obituary

Charles F. McGrath (Buddy), 90, of Weymouth passed away peacefully on January 31st. 2024. Born and raised in Dorchester, he was the youngest and last remaining of the 14 children of the late Patrick McGrath and Elizabeth (Bartlett) McGrath. 

Charles joined the Navy during the Korean conflict to “see the world” but was stationed in Boston. He said that had he not been stationed in Boston, he never would have met the love of his life. 

After leaving the navy, Charles worked for Frigidaire and later worked for the Weymouth DPW and then the post office. He was an avid athlete, playing Hockey into his 70s. Charles enjoyed going dancing with his wife and hosting his large family for cookouts. 

He is predeceased by his wife of over 60 years Eileen (Ross) McGrath, his son Kevin McGrath, daughter Diane (McGrath) McCurdy and his great-granddaughter Danielle Buckley. He is survived by his son Stephen and wife Susan of Scituate, his son Terrence and wife Debra of Weymouth, his son Timothy and wife Sharon of Carver, and his son-in-law Kenneth McCurdy of Hanover. Additionally he is survived by his 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 

Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock Street, Quincy from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Private burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne will take place at a later date. In-lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Charles’s memory be made to The Pat Roche Hospice house in Hingham Massachusetts at Hospice workers are gifts from God.
