Charles Oakley Thompson, 83 of Harbourside at Marina Bay, Quincy, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury.
Charles was born in Los Angeles, California to the late Leila M. and Charles O. Thompson, Sr. on Halloween, October 31, 1941. It was always a wonderful celebration for his birthday. He later moved to Llano, California on the western edge of the Mojave Desert, where he graduated from Palmdale High School and attended Antelope Valley College.
Chuck was the oldest of seven siblings including two sisters; Cecilia Talmadge and husband Tom, and Charlene Harrington and husband Gary, as well as four brothers; Daniel, Richard and wife Norma, Chris, and Craig. They grew their own food and tended goats. He Later joined the Army and was stationed in Boston as Military Police where he met and married Margaret who lived on Marlborough Street in Boston. They had two wonderful sons, Christian and Matthew.
Later, Chuck joined Filene’s Executive Training. He worked his way up from Clerical worker to Assistant Buyer, then Merchandise Manager and eventually to Vice President of Filene’s Basement. He traveled the world to bring Boston fabulous designer clothes at a wonderful price!
After Filene’s Basement he worked for Red Rose Limousine. At times, all sorts of Rolls-Royces and limousines were in the driveway. Margaret would supply the epicure from Neiman Marcus for the ride to Logan or for special events.
On weekends, their special granddaughter, Heather Thompson Pomella and husband Thomas, would come to visit. His other wonderful grandchildren are Louie and Roman Thompson. His siblings along with their spouses and many nieces and nephews including Melanie Talmadge. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, one his namesake.
Later years were spent in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
