Cheong Yip “Chuck” Chow 周昌業

Cheong Yip "Chuck" Chow, of Quincy and Sharon, MA, passed away Monday February 2, 2026 in Boston Medical Center South in Brockton. He was 60.

Chuck was born in Kowloon, Hong Kong in 1965, the oldest son of Yiu Kwan Chow and Lai Fong Chow. Growing up in Boston, he graduated from Boston Latin School and studied at UMass Boston, where he earned a BA in English.

A first generation Chinese-American son of non-English-speaking working parents, Chuck grew up fast, shouldering many responsibilities at a young age, and learning the importance of taking care of his younger brothers and family early on. Chuck's life is a fulfillment of the great promise of a country of immigrants.

Chuck worked as a reporter for the Boston Globe covering the city beat. Always a computer guy, he moved over to doing software development first at Boston.com, then at Accenture alongside his brother Chong, and later settling into devops work, spending the last 20 years at Boston Scientific, where he was a valued and beloved member of the IT organization.

A good friend to many, Chuck's greatest source of happiness was family. His origin story as a super dad is that he realized his calling while he held his baby niece as weekend babysitter for the first few years of Julia's life. Chuck traveled to China and wooed Gigi, who became the love of his life and the mother of his two beautiful children.

Chuck was a devoted husband, loving father and cherished friend. He was a man of many interests, from sports to computers to billiards to Tolkien to world history and playing chess with his kids. Chuck saw the world with an honest and curious eye, and was always kind and caring to both loved ones and strangers alike.

Chuck is survived by his wife Yan "Gigi" Chow of Sharon and their children Summer and Aisin; his brothers Wai, Chong and Ray, and his many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Friends and family will honor and remember Chuck's life by gathering at the Hamel-Lydon Chapel and Funeral Home 安泰殯儀館, 650 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02170 on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the casket closing ceremony from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
