Chi-Ting Huang, Ph.D. 黃琪𤧟 Obituary

Dr. Chi-Ting Huang, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and scientist, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by her loving family. She fought a courageous three-year battle with an EGFR-mutant form of lung cancer, demonstrating the same resilience and determination she brought to all aspects of her life.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on February 13, 1970, Chi-Ting was the cherished daughter of Edward and Shu-Jen Huang and the devoted sister of Brian Huang. She was a proud mother to her two children, Lilikoi and Palila, and a loving caretaker to her pets, Orion and Sirius.

Chi-Ting had a brilliant mind and was a passionate scientist. She earned her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and went on to obtain her Doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota. Her expertise and dedication led her to a distinguished career in biotechnology, specializing in Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) for drug development and production.

Throughout her career, Chi-Ting held numerous leadership roles, including Vice President of CMC at Pheon Therapeutics. She also founded her own consulting company, CTH Biotech Consulting, in 2015, reflecting her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to advancing science.

Chi-Ting was also an inventor, and her innovative spirit left a lasting impact on the field of biotechnology. Just this past year, she was awarded a patent for a groundbreaking innovation in developing stable pharmaceutical formulations of antibodies.

Beyond her professional achievements, Chi-Ting was a lifelong learner and an avid creator. She loved solving puzzles, experimenting, knitting, reading, skiing, and pursuing countless other hobbies with enthusiasm and curiosity. Her love for science extended to her community, where she volunteered at the Boston Museum of Science, inspiring countless visitors through her teaching and insights.  Her diagnosis did not stop her from working, playing, and traveling until the very end.

Chi-Ting’s kindness, humility, and boundless energy touched everyone she met. She was a supportive and caring presence, always willing to help others find solutions and share in their joy.

Chi-Ting’s final wishes reflect her deep connection to the natural world. She will be laid to rest in an environmentally friendly burial at sea in the presence of her immediate family. Her family will take her from Hyannis, Massachusetts to 40 miles offshore, where she will be respectfully consigned to a depth of 200 fathoms (600 feet) in the Atlantic Ocean.

A memorial and celebration of Chi-Ting’s life will be held later in February coinciding with the Chinese New Year celebrations she so loved to host. Details will be shared out in the future.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Chi-Ting’s honor to the American Cancer Society, MSPCA, or the Animal Rescue League of Boston, organizations she deeply admired and supported.

Chi-Ting Huang was a beacon of light, warmth, and brilliance, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
