Christopher Doyle Obituary

Christopher J Doyle, age 65, of Scituate MA, an avid sailor, mathematician, and educator, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 8, 2026. Chris was raised in Dorchester and Weymouth, and graduated from South Weymouth High School in 1978. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was there that he met and married his wife, Sarah Axel.

He learned to sail on a Cadet and then a 420. At MIT he sailed Tech Dinghys and worked at the MIT Boathouse. In 1989 he bought his first cruising sailboat, an Ericson 25, and spent many days sailing in Buzzards Bay. After he and Sarah had their first child, Boryana, he upgraded to a Catalina 30 which he found more suitable to sail with an infant in tow. The family welcomed another child, Jo, and soon Chris found an outlet for his passion for mathematics education homeschooling the children and designing mathematics curricula.

In 2017 he fulfilled a life-long dream and began cruising in Aeolus, his Beneteau 47.7. He spent several winters in Georgetown in the Bahamas and enjoyed stops all along the east coast of the United States on his way back to summer in Buzzards Bay.

Chris was predeceased by his sister Susan Webb of Pembroke in 2014 and his father Christopher Doyle in March 2026. He is survived by his wife Sarah Axel of Scituate, his children Boryana Doyle and her husband Maksim Imakaev and Jo Axel, his mother Gerda Doyle of Weymouth, his brother Ed Doyle and his wife Beth of Marshfield, his
niece Erica and nephew Collin, his brother-in-law Richard Webb of Pembroke, as well as his companion Audrey McBriar and many friends.
