Chue Ming Tu Testimonial

I remember visiting my relatives in Singapore when I was in my twenties. I stayed for about a week with my sister's family. Upon my departure, my sister's mother-in-law handed me an item wrapped in a red silk cloth. She told me that the object was a miniature statue of a goddess, obtained from a famous temple at the request of my mother; I was supposed to bring it back to Hong Kong. From that point onward, my wife and I followed other family members in worshipping Buddha and other idols. It was a phenomenon of following what other people were doing. Looking back from what I understand now, my thinking and my philosophy of life in the past decades were both naive and laughable!

Thanks be to Jesus Christ our Lord, we are blessed with two sons and two daughters. Our second daughter and both sons grew up and studied in the U.S., and they all accepted Jesus many years ago. They have grown to become Christians under the guidance of our Lord Jesus. In 1993, our second daughter visited us in Hong Kong during her vacation, and she shared with us the Gospel. At that time, I heard the voice of our Lord Jesus calling me, but unfortunately I was not serious enough to accept Him.

In September 1996, my wife was diagnosed as having stomach cancer at the terminal stage. This was a great shock to me. At the time, while she was undergoing intensive treatment from specialists, she pleaded with the goddess idol day and night. Again our sons and daughters diligently preached the Gospel to us. They wanted us to believe in Jesus, and to entrust all things to Him. We were given faith related booklets, audiotapes and hymns, but the most precious item given to us was a copy of the Bible. They tried patiently to explain it to us and to lead us into the realm of believing in Jesus. They told us that we should let the Lord guide us and entrust Him with all things. Our Lord Jesus is gracious and holy; His love is everlasting. The Lord is the creator of all things: He is a God of trinity - the one and only true God. Only through Jesus Christ can we receive peace and everlasting life. For God so loved the world, He gave us His Son. He is the only savior.

Our sons and daughters often stayed with their mother at her sick bed and prayed silently for her. Step-by-step, they led and encouraged her to know Christ. In addition, they told her testimonies of many famous people. Within the hospital there were also several church workers who shared the Gospel with my wife. Touched by the spirit of Jesus, she began to pray for herself, for her children, and for me. Every day she studied the Bible, sang hymns, listened to tapes, and smiled and rejoiced with her children while she was in her sick bed. There, she even played games and kidded with the children. It was very precious that being so severely sick, suffering so much pain and undergoing so much hardship. she was able to enter the doorway of the Lord through faith and sincerity. The Lord protected her, accepted her and held her hand. Every time when she finished singing and praying, there was always an indescribable feeling in her - a mixture of joy and peace. Day after day, month after month and step by step, my wife came to know Jesus. Finally, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Many friends joined our family on the day she was baptized. And while the pastor administered the baptism and gave her a blessing, she was overcome with emotion; she shed many tears of joy. Thanks be to Jesus for accepting her as His daughter; this is a glorious blessing.

It was November 1997 when my wife's condition grew worse. After battling her sickness for over a year, my wife finally deserted her children and husband and moved onward on her trip to heaven. Before she left, she told me that there was no need for me to keep thinking about her; we would meet again one day. She was so calm, joyous and peaceful, it made me believe that there could be such a day when I would see her again in heaven. It is most difficult in life to accept the final farewell. How unbearable was the grief and pain! This had to be the biggest blow in my life, and I became depressed and aimless, not knowing what else was going on around me. It was only after a while that I was able to calm down. Although I had not accepted Jesus nor gotten baptized at the same time as my wife, scenes and moments from her baptism became imprinted in my memory. I was moved by her decision to accept Christ, and I was proud of her decision. Gradually, I moved away from past superstition and sought the glorious way. In the past, I could not have faith in the Lord due to the many sins in my life. I thought it was enough to worship the false gods. I regret so much that I did not then know Christ Jesus, the true God and Savior of the world.

Early in 1999, I was moved by the Holy Spirit and the awakening in me began. Every time when I returned home, I became uneasy and uncomfortable seeing all the idols and the many setups due to Feng Shui consideration.I started taking action to clean them out. I ascertained my belief: I wanted to receive the Lord and I wanted to become a godly Christian. I was like a lost sheep that finally returned to the big family. Deep inside myself I felt excited and joyous. Thanks be to God that I began a new page of my life. Every Sunday morning | attended worship service, and I felt insignificant in the presence of the Lord. Like a little child, I knew very little and I could only learn slowly. I thanked God for granting me strength, I thank my wife for her good example, and I thanked my children for their care and support that helped me to find the right way.

In July 2000, I came to Maryland and stayed with my daughter. Every Sunday, I went with my daughter and son-in-law to worship service, and I studied God's word. Under their care I learned more about Jesus. Ever since I had Jesus inside my heart, my life had undergone a big change. Because I could unload all of my burdens onto Jesus, I began to experience peace and joy in my life. Last August, I arrived in Boston to stay with my two sons, and they led me to BCEC. At the church I came to know the pastors and many brothers and sisters. They are all very sincere and fervent, and they help and encourage me a lot. I feel like I have joined a big family - the big family of our Lord God. Now I affirm that Jesus is the only true God. I also affirm that if we only follow Him, He will grant us peace and take away our sadness. He will care for us as we walk in the truth. Therefore, I have made my decision to follow the Lord, and be a godly Christian.
