Daniel Winter Obituary

Daniel E. Winter of Quincy, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer. He was survived by his lifelong partner Paula Mullen of Quincy and her daughter Kelly Mullen of Weymouth his sister Marilyn Pope and brother-in-law John Pope III of Whitman, sister Diane Cosimeno of Rome, NY his nephew Andrew Pope of Weymouth, and his nieces Christine Dahlstrom of Hanover and Keri Talbot of East Falmouth.

Born in Weymouth, MA, Dan was preceded in death by his parents Helen and William Winter Jr, and his two brothers Terrance and Stephen Winter. Dan is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He embraced many of his Quincy and Weymouth community friends as his own family.

Dan can be remembered for his candid and straightforward personality; Dan told it like it was. Always laughing, Dan was quick witted with a wry, offbeat, and unconventional sense of humor. In his younger years, Dan enjoyed helping as a ‘roadie’ or road crew member setting up equipment for local area bands and musicians. Often, he could be seen at the Surf Nightclub in Hull and at The Rathskeller in Boston. Throughout his life Dan played many musical instruments. His greatest passion was playing his electric and acoustic guitars. Enjoying many musical genres, his favorites were blues bass and hard rock.

His tattoos told a story of people, ideas, and memories that held personal significance to him throughout his life. From love and compassion for his family to his outspoken thoughts about cancer, the story was written on his arms for all to see. Fishing was a great source of peace for Dan, he enjoyed time spent at freshwater ponds and fishing the ocean waters. He lived his life as he chose and often said, “I’m the Captain of my ship!”.

At Dan’s request, there will be no services.
