Duc Tran 陳德

Duc Tran 陳德, 92, of Boston, the respected founder of the Divine Dharma Meditation Boston Center, passed away peacefully at 11:00am on Sunday January 5, 2025 surrounded by the love, comfort and care of his family.

Born in Guangzhou, China he married his wife, Nu La, in Vietnam in 1968 before immigrating to Boston in 1984. Duc later founded Divine Dharma Meditation Boston Center in 2006 on Beach Street in Quincy before ultimately moving to their current location on Hancock Street.

A devout Buddhist, Duc lived a life of helpfulness and charity; always doing whatever he could to help members of the community who were in need both here and in Vietnam. He was an early member of the Thousand Buddha Temple, Quincy, where he was an active member for many years.

In his personal life, he enjoyed sight-seeing and going on road trips, he often brought his grandchildren to McDonald’s and to the park for play time when they were young. He liked the content he watched on YouTube most likely for its educational qualities, but without question his favorite times were those spent in the company of his loving family.

His family will always remember his sage advice to them which he often repeated; ‘Be polite and be humble’ as well as ‘We must always be willing to learn’.

Devoted husband of more than 56 years to Nu La. Loving father of Johnson Tran and his wife Christina of Quincy, and Irene Tran of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Brandon Tran, Nicholas Tran and Natalie Tran, all of Quincy. Also survived by siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his Visiting Hours on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock Street, Quincy.

Additional Visiting Hours and Funeral will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 9:30am to 11:00am at Tirrell Room (Hamel-Lydon 安泰大禮堂), 254 Quarry Street, Quincy. Casket closing ceremony to begin at 11:15am followed by a procession to Blue Hill Crematory, 700 West Street, Braintree.
