Edith Sophia “Edie” Donovan, born on May 23, 1934 in Boston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Quincy on July 16, 2025, at the age of 91. Her life was filled with love, purpose, and enduring memories.
A devoted mother to her three sons, Edie balanced an unwavering work ethic with an unshakable commitment to family. Her deep faith and generous spirit were the foundation of her life, shaping the values she passed on to those around her.
Edie was a beloved presence in her community; a quiet pillar of strength, grace, and compassion. She touched many lives with her kindness and wisdom, leaving behind lasting friendships and a legacy that will endure.
Among the many roles she cherished, being a grandmother was her greatest joy. From making pizzelle and homemade sauce to knitting blankets with care, Edie poured her love into every moment. It was these simple, heartfelt acts that earned her the beloved title of “Nonnie.”
Edie is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Donovan, and her son, Chuck. She is survived by her sons Mark and Michael, and her adored grandchildren: Spencer, Mackenzie, Grant, Samantha, Caleb, and Miriam.
Visiting hours Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 5:00-8:00pm at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock St., Quincy. Funeral from the funeral home on Thursday July 24, 2025 beginning at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Sacred Heart Church of Divine Mercy Parish, 386 Hancock St., Quincy. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Quincy
