Edward DeWolfe Obituary

Edward R. DeWolfe, of Quincy, died peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his family following a period of declining health. He was 85 years young.

Raised in East Boston, Ed was the son of the late Francis and May (Potter) DeWolfe. He graduated from East Boston High in 1959 and attended Northeastern University. He worked for many years as an insurance agent in the greater Boston area, retiring in 2001 as Vice President of Appleby & Wyman Insurance Agency in Dedham, MA. Not one to “sit around,” he quickly took a job at a storage facility where he worked another ten years before fully retiring, allowing him to maximize his time with family, friends, and hobbies.

A man of confidence, charisma, and warmth, Ed pursued a wide array of personal passions. He was a dedicated life member of the Train Collector’s Association and shared a love for roller coasters as a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts. A long-time season ticket holder, he was a passionate supporter of the Boston Red Sox, which he often enjoyed watching with his family. Whether competing with friends or family, Ed's enthusiastic and competitive nature was always on display when he played pinball. A true music enthusiast, Ed frequently shared his passion by DJing and hosting engaging music trivia competitions. He also had a great appreciation for antique cars and cherished the simple pleasure of driving his convertibles with the top down and wind blowing through his hair.

Ed took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, always eager to learn about their latest news and asking, “What are you up to next?” Whether it was during holidays, vacations, celebrations, backyard BBQs, or various sporting events, he cherished every moment spent together. His family holds dear memories of him cheering from the sidelines at soccer and baseball games, attending dance recitals, and visiting them at their college campuses.

Ed and Linda enjoyed a long, devoted life together, full of laughter, social events, and summers spent on Cape Cod. They shared a deep, mutual affection for one another as well as a fondness for their many relatives and extended families. Their shared life was filled with a vibrant and youthful energy, which their beloved dogs only enhanced.

Ed was the long-time, loving companion of Linda Maher of Quincy. Devoted father of Paul DeWolfe of Plainville, Michelle Ardizzoni and her husband Joseph of Wilmington, and the late Mary Margaret DeWolfe. Cherished “Grandpa” of Anna Ardizzoni and Domenic Ardizzoni, both of Wilmington. He was the dear brother of the late William E. DeWolfe.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, May 9, from 8:30am-10:30am at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock St, Quincy, after which a Catholic prayer service will begin at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High Street, Canton.  In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Edward R. DeWolfe.
