Edward Tripp Jr. Obituary

Edward Tripp was brought into this world on December 15th, 1949 and called home too soon, at the age of 69. He had more life to live and much more to contribute to the world, but it was not our call. Edward Tripp, of Boston, Massachusetts was the first born son of six children including Joseph, Gregory, Julia, Garrison, and Toni, to our late parents, Edward F. Tripp, Sr. from North Carolina and Julia M. Tripp from Wareham, MA.

Edward attended and graduated from Timilty High School and went on to proudly serve in the US Air Force from June 1969 to November 1972 as Airman first class (A1C) which is the third enlisted rank in the United States Air Force. Edward served in the Vietnam War and was outstanding in his service for his humanity to the civilian Vietnamese population, in particular, the children. After his service in the Air Force, Edward went on to work as a Security Officer at Boston Medical Center, then retired but continued his work in Boston area hospitals as an orderly, bringing comfort to those he transported between the emergency room and various testing departments. Edwards military training gave him multiple advantages in his chosen lines of work. He was commanding and knew how to keep order, but he also had compassion and did his best to balance those attributes in a demanding environment. In his spare time, Edward collected music. He was rumored to have the third largest record collection in New England and was a close acquaintance of Skippy White, a renowned music distributor and businessman in Boston with whom Eddie spent a lot of time discussing a wide range of artists from early Jazz and Blues artists to Motown, Pop and R&B, soul and country from the early 1900’s through the 90’s. What was astonishing was his recall of details of the music of artists he collected - the bands they were in, the songs they sang, the covers they did of other artists work, when they left one group and joined another; who was in it, when they retired. He had encyclopedic knowledge of music and could regale you for hours on the topic. He was also an avid reader from historical works to superheroes. He also knew the backstories to all the major Marvel Comic characters! He was also very knowledgeable about sports – football, basketball, baseball and possessed an analytical mind. He was formidable. What few people realized was that his vast wealth of knowledge, hid a very shy man. Edward had several romantic relationships but never married nor had children. He also had an elegant style of dress, especially when he went out on the town. He owned several Stetsons and Fedoras, cashmere dress coats, Stacy Adams shoes, and Brooks Brothers shirts. In the end, his most prominent feature was his large, heavy lidded brown eyes and a beautiful child-like spirit. Edward is survived by his two brothers, Gegory A. Tripp and Garrison Bond and his two sisters, Julia F. Tripp and Toni A. Tripp, several nieces, a nephew, and two great grand nephews and a great grand niece.
