Gerd Noyes (Wollan), 96, of Needham, formerly of Wellesley, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Pines Edge at North Hill nursing home.
Gerd was the daughter of the late Ludwig Wollan and Ragnhild Bors and loving wife to the late Burton Noyes and the late Harry Westcott. She was the devoted mother to Keith Noyes sibling to Bjarne and grandmother to Kaya and Luka. Gerd also leaves behind too many friends and well-wishers to mention.
Gerd was born in Norway in 1930 and lived through the Nazi occupation during WWII. In 1959, Gerd became a proud immigrant to the United States, where she met her first husband, Burton Noyes, and settled in Wellesley, Massachusetts. For many years she was the office manager and only female employee of the Wellesley Fire Department. Following Burt’s passing in 2000, Gerd married Harry Westcott, with whom she traveled the world before settling in North Hill in Needham. Gerd and Harry lived together there until Harry’s passing in 2018. Gerd was possibly best known as the world’s most prolific knitter, often completing her masterpieces while simultaneously reading magnum opus novels. She continued to knit for charities until almost the very end.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to celebration of life on March 8, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the North Hill Retirement Community in Needham, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Give Kids the World Village at gktw.org or at 210 S Bass Rd., Kissimmee, FL 34746.
