Hattie Strickland Obituary

Hattie Strickland (Perry) Bullock, 84 of Boston passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

She was the beloved wife of the late Otis Bullock and loving mother of the late James L. Perry.  She was the daughter of the late Richard Perry and Alice Florence Perry (Ford). Born in Franklinton, North Carolina, Hattie was one of 12 brothers and sisters. Her siblings that preceded her in death are brothers Richard Perry, Tony Perry, Al Perry, Jessie Perry, Thomas Perry, and Daniel Perry. And sisters Mamie Epps, Edna Lyons, Mary Frances Braswell. She is survived by her two sisters Elise Cobb of Burlington, NC, Betty Avery and sister-in-law Alice Perry both of New Jersey. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Mary Burrell Perry. She was the adored grandmother of four grandchildren, Tye Burrell of Newburyport, James Burrell, Jr, Jha’Shawn Burrell and Tha’Shauna Burrell all of Boston. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Before settling in Boston, together with her sister Mamie, Hattie made her way up from North Carolina, stopping in New York for a number of years. The two sisters were inseparable and could often be found talking for hours on the phone, holding prayer sessions, shopping together, and spending time at each other’s homes with their husbands.

Hattie was such a gentle, loving person. She loved everyone she met and had a way of making people feel at ease even at the first interaction. She was a Christian woman with an unwavering faith and claimed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She thoroughly enjoyed going to gospel concerts, church jubilees and reading her Bible daily.

Family was extremely important to Hattie. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed cooking, telling stories, dancing, laughing and she especially loved church hats. Hattie was such a bright soul and will be missed by her family.
