Helene Tucker Obituary

Helene Grace Tucker of Quincy, Massachusetts, rode her flaming chariot into heaven escorted by the voce Bellissima of Andrea Bocelli singing "The Prayer." Helene's devoted daughter Susan held her hand as they felt comforted listening to Helene's favorite songs and The Holy Rosary of Padre Pio for healing and miracles.

She is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Tucker Sr., sons Raymond Tucker and David Tucker, and sisters Margaret Byrnes and Patricia Drinan. Brother-in-laws Russell Kubli, Dennis Drinan, John Byrnes Sr.   Survived by her children: Susan Tucker (Rick Hayes), Michael Tucker, Gregory Tucker (Kimi),and Paul Tucker (Gloria); brothers William Martin (Joanne) and Ronald Martin. Sisters Wilma Kubli and Susan Connell (Paul), twelve cherished grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Helene was born in Boston, MA, on May 22, 1934, a product of The Silent Generation, her parents, the late William, and Sarah (McIssac) Martin.   Helene grew up in Mission Hill and graduated from the High School of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Roxbury, class 1952. She worked for State Street Bank of Boston, married a Marine, Raymond Tucker, and settled in Marshfield to raise six children. Helene was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Marshfield and St. John the Baptist Parish in Quincy.  Helene loved to sing, and although she had previously declined an offer to perform on a cruise line, she became a star singing in the church choir. Helene wrote poetry and loved swan boats, the Boston Pops, Broadway Musicals, playing piano, field trips with her friends, reading to children, and Boston Sports.

Helene's mission and devotion were to her family, friends, and Catholic beliefs, often sacrificing her needs for the benefit of others. In the 1970s, she spent years in the Massachusetts courts battling an unscrupulous and negligent home developer for shoddy work on their new home.  Helene's efforts encouraged Senator Mackinnon and State Representative Frank Hynes to write and pass the Home Contractor Law in Massachusetts, protecting new home buyers. Although Helene never received any collectible considerations from her home builder, she took solace and was proud, knowing her fight aided others.

In her final hours, Sunday, October 22, and only 89, Helene bargained for more time, wondering if she had done enough to get into heaven.  Helene's friends and family answer that question in valediction when they raise a glass to the stars to celebrate her safe passage.  Mom, in your own words, Take Care, God Bless, Bye-Bye.
