James (“Jimmy”) S. Mark, 90, of Peabody MA and previously of Quincy MA, passed away on December 29, 2024.
James was born in 1934. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 from China. He lived first in Indiana and then moved to Chicago, IL, where in 1960 he met Jannie Mark (neé Lee) who would eventually become his wife of more than 60 years. They grew their family in Chicago with their daughter Bonnie and first son Michael before moving to the Boston, MA area and having their third child, Raymond. For several years, Jimmy worked for the Digital Equipment Corporation but ultimately became a restaurateur in Mansfield, MA. Shortly thereafter, he became a grandfather to two grandsons, Michael Monahan and Colin Monahan.
In 1995, Jimmy retired from the hospitality industry and spent time cheering on/complaining about New England sports teams, keeping up with local news via the Boston Herald, and spending time with his grandsons whenever possible.
Jimmy was predeceased by his son Michael Mark. He is survived by his wife, Jannie (Lee) Mark; his daughter, Bonnie Mark Monahan, and son-in-law Robert Monahan; his son Raymond Mark; his grandsons, Michael Monahan and Colin Monahan; as well as many brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews, and friends throughout the Greater Boston area.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral with traditional Chinese rites on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 10:15am-12pm at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock Street, Quincy. Casket closing ceremony to begin at 12 noon followed by a procession to Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree for interment.
