Janet “Jan” Carolyn Moller Tichansky passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by Joseph Tichansky, her loving husband of 61 years, and is survived by four children and nine grandchildren.
Janet approached life as an adventure to be enjoyed to its fullest. This relentless can-do attitude led her from a young adult life in New York City, befriending a member of the Rat Pack, and frolicking at the Jersey Shore, to a wonderful four decades in Wayne, NJ creating a fulfilling family experience. Her children had an upbringing filled with activity mostly trying to keep up with Jan, yet she made a point of making time to develop an individual and unique relationship with each, often while barreling around
Wayne in her yellow Mustang convertible with an uncovered mug of hot tea precariously balanced on the seat. Professionally, Jan started in the Avon secretarial pool in Rockefeller Center and ended with a long tenure as the Executive Assistant to the President of a multinational company. Seeking new experiences led her to discover a place called Stowe, Vermont in 1970. Through many years, she led her family to feel “at home” there and created her vision quest to eventually live there permanently. Upon her retirement, she and Joe fulfilled that goal and immediately relished immersing themselves in the Stowe community and making friends who continue to share stories reflecting the deep sense of belonging they had.
Jan also had an incredibly strong faith and was a eucharistic minister in her church communities of St. Michael’s in Wayne and St. John’s in the Mountains in Stowe. She and Joe were dedicated members of these communities and were driven to make a meaningful impact and give back. This faith also instilled the belief in Jan, and her whole family, that time and events would unfold how they were supposed to and set-backs were only a pause on the path to the next opportunity. The only thing worse than quitting was being a burden to someone else.
The last days of her life were uncharacteristically quiet yet Jan rallied a moment to give parting words that remind us of the foundation upon which she lived. In one short sentence, Jan perfectly summed up what was important to her in life as she whispered: “It’s been fun”.
In lieu of flowers, please consider instead a donation made in Jan’s honor at the Lamoille Community Food Share (www.lcfoodshare.org) or St. John’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church (https://stjohnsinthemountains.org/).
A celebration of Jan’s life will be planned for Summer of 2025 in Stowe, Vermont.
