Janice Marie (Walker) Canty, 82, of Braintree formerly of Weymouth passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Allerton House in Weymouth, after a period of declining health.
Janice was born in Weymouth and raised in Braintree. She was a graduate of Braintree High School Class of 1960. She then began her career with the telephone company working for them as an accounting clerk for 30 years. She retired at the age of 49. She was a member of the telephone pioneers club. After her retirement, Janice worked part time for Almquist Florist of Quincy, which she truly enjoyed.
Janice was a longtime member of the Union Congregational Church of Weymouth Landing where she was active in the flower circle, she then took her membership to The First Church in Weymouth where she held the position of Deacon. Janice volunteered at the Weymouth Food Pantry for many years. She was an active member of the bowling league at Olindy’s Quincy Avenue Lanes in Quincy. She had also appeared on the television game show Candlepins for Cash. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society. Janice loved travelling with her three sisters cruising to Bermuda and visiting Florida and all the New England states. Janice was an avid gardener creating beautiful flower beds at her home.
She was the devoted wife of the late Richard A. Canty who died in 2017.
She is the beloved sister of Helen Louann Wiessmeyer of Weymouth, Dixie Lee Dunajski of Braintree, Linda Sue Rioux of Quincy and Dana Frank Walker of The Villages of Florida. She was also the sister of the late Charles Ray “Hoss” Walker formerly of Abington and the late Melvin Eugene Walker formerly of Plymouth.
Janice is the devoted niece of Frank Eugene Walker of Delaware and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three Stepchildren, nine Step Grandchildren and one Step-Great Grandchild.
Janice’s family would like to thank all her friends, church family and neighbors that were so good to her over the years and during her last illness.

Visiting hours at the Hamel-Lydon Chapel will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
