Jason Russell Layer

Jason R. Layer, age 44, of Roselle, Illinois, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with Huntington Disease. He was the beloved son of Barbara A. Layer (nee Fulsang) and the late Mark A. Layer.

Jason was a loving brother to Timothy (Tori) and Brian Layer, and he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marian and Larry Fulsang, Barbara L. and Russell Layer, as well as his uncles, Paul Fulsang and Bob Heenan.

On the morning of March 14, Jason beloved dog, Wally, also passed away just hours before him, adding to the sense of profound loss.

Jason was the cherished nephew of Jill (the late Bob) Heenan, Dawn (Steve) Pelletier, Maria (Frank) Hutchinson, Bruce (Jacquie) Layer of Houston, Texas, and Wayne (Cindy) Layer of Lemont. He was a devoted cousin to many, and his kind spirit touched everyone who knew him. A proud graduate of Lake Park High School (Class of 1998), Jason excelled in sports, participating in swimming, baseball, and cross country. He went on to attend College of DuPage, the University of Iowa, and North Central College, where he studied communications. Jason proudly served in the U.S. Navy in San Diego, further demonstrating his commitment and strength.

Jason had a deep love for family, sports, music, and camping at Hill and Hollow in Pentwater, where countless fond memories were made. He also enjoyed DJing and sharing his passion for music with others. Above all, Jason was known for his warm heart and compassionate soul, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In honor of Jason’s memory and in the spirit of raising awareness, we encourage everyone to learn more about Huntington Disease and cherish each day.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Huntington Disease Society of America or to the American Cancer Society.
