Joanne Catherine Sagarino

Joanne Catherine (Sutherland) Sagarino, aged 88, of Wakefield, MA, passed away at home on October 19, 2024. Joanne was known for her lifelong dedication to caring for others as she spent more than five decades working as a registered nurse at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, MA. She was a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.

Joanne, affectionately known as “Jojo”, was a spitfire with a zest for life and was fiercely independent. She was outgoing and sociable, never turning down a chance to attend an event with friends, right up until her last days.

Joanne was a beloved member of the Wakefield / Lynnfield United Methodist Church of Wakefield, where she found faith, friendship, and community. She had a special affection for her neighbors, who, over the many years, became like family to her. Joanne was also involved in many local charities and activities that supported her two sons including The Boy Scouts of America and numerous youth sporting organizations.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in October 2012. Joanne is survived by her two sons, Donald Sagarino and his wife Paula, and David Sagarino and his wife Linda. Joanne was a proud and loving grandmother to Tessa, Sam, Jenna, Jake, Jessica, and Samantha. Her family meant everything to her, and she found great joy in spending time with them. She will be dearly missed by many friends and extended family members, including her best friend of 70 years, Barbara Dickey of Wakefield, MA.

A private family service will be held to celebrate Joanne’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in memory of Joanne can be made to the Wakefield / Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon Street Wakefield, MA. 01880.
