John Bita, Jr. Obituary

John Russell Bita, Jr., 78, of Marshfield formerly of Randolph and Quincy, died November 5, 2024 following a long illness.

Born and raised in Quincy, John was a life-long member of Christ Church, Quincy where he was a former Acolyte and member of the Vestry. He attended North Quincy High before graduating from Newman Prep in Boston.

In 1972 he married his beloved bride of 52 years, Louise E. (Carnes), and the two made their home in Randolph where they raised three sons.

John was a devoted husband and involved father, volunteering his time with Randolph Youth Soccer during the 1980’s as a coach for his son’s soccer teams. His family will always relish their times spent on the practice field and at games, at Loon Mountain in NH and their trips to Cape Cod, along with extended family gatherings.

A talented auto mechanic by trade, he worked for many years at the former Coletta Bros. Auto Repair in North Quincy.

John enjoyed repairing vehicles as part of his job, but he loved watching car races. He and Louise even visited historic Lime Rock racetrack in Connecticut and Watkins Glen in New York. He was also a real history buff and enjoyed watching documentaries about historic events.

In addition to his wife, Louise, he is survived by his three sons; John R. Bita, III and wife Greer of East Boston, Christopher R. Bita and wife Lisa of Braintree, and Michael J. Bita and wife Marlena of Reading. Cherished grandfather of Molly and Jake Bita of Braintree and Noelle Bita of Reading. Dear brother of Karen Knop and husband Mark of St. Petersburg, FL. Brother in law of Nancy and Basilio Matos, Susan and Peter Horsford, Jennifer and Chuck Bacon, Cindy and David Wells, Bob and Judy Carnes, and the late Mary and Jack Hodgman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visiting hours respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday November 14 at 11:00am in Christ Church, Quincy 12 Quincy Ave, Quincy Center with the Rev. Clifford R. Brown, Rector, officiating.

Those wishing may make a donation in John’s memory to Christ Church Memorial Fund, 12 Quincy Ave, Quincy MA 02169.
