John A. DeLorey, 77, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2023. Beloved husband to the late Pamela (McKeen) DeLorey. Precious father of Christine DeLorey, devoted grandfather to Jacqueline Fraser and Great-Gampa to Cora, all of Quincy. Brother of James DeLorey of Plymouth and the late Kevin and Dennis DeLorey, both of Quincy. John was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Paul K. McKeen and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his entire family and many dear friends.
John was born on July 9, 1945, to the late John and Mary (Lyons) DeLorey and raised in West Roxbury. He often spoke of wonderful childhood memories and precious stories of his younger days. As a young man, he moved to Quincy, where he met and married his wife, Pamela. They spent the remainder of their lives there and were cared for by their dedicated daughter, Christine, in their later years. He worked as a custodian for Quincy Public Schools until his retirement in 2014. He had a unique way of bringing humor to any situation, especially when it was needed most. There was never a dull moment in his presence. He was an avid music fan, appreciating everything from The Temptations to Roy Orbison, always eager to sing along, song after song.
John had a generous heart, with a special gift for giving during the holidays and was always willing to help anyone in need; whether family, friend or stranger. He was a member of the Quincy Lodge of Elks, spending many days watching football games and enjoying time and vacations with friends, usually making many stops along the way, never the direct route, always eager to socialize and entertain a crowd. Every day, John began his day at The L Street Bathhouse in South Boston. Truly his home away from home, where he made numerous friends throughout the years, whom he missed dearly, especially those who stole his underwear. He spent many sun and fun filled summers at Nantasket Beach in Hull with his family. They frequently vacationed on Cape Cod or north in NH, collecting many precious memories. John was truly a good man, son, brother, nephew, cousin, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who enjoyed life his way.
