Kenneth Yong, 68, of Brighton, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday February 14, 2025 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge following a recent illness.
Born in Hong Kong August 15, 1956 he was the son of the late Hong Wei and Wai Chi Yong. Kenneth immigrated to the United States in the 1960’s, settling in Boston. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Merrimack College in North Andover, and received his Master’s degree from Suffolk University in Boston. He was a respected expert in accounting and tax code, working much of his career for the federal government.
While in Boston he met his future bride, Marilyn Leung, while grocery shopping at the former Sun Sun Market on Oxford Street. The two were inseparable, and they eventually married on August 22, 1987 in Boston.
Always physically fit and active, he ran three miles daily and enjoyed swimming in pools, playing tennis and sailing on the Charles River. Although he initially sailed with others as a group, he soon realized he that sailing alone allowed him to take in the peace and tranquility he so enjoyed.
He had a great appreciation for classical music and was a supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He also looked forward to attending Chinese banquets such as the one hosted by the Kwong Kow Chinese School.
Kenneth always made time to listen intently to people. He was extremely articulate and straightforward; with a good sense of humor and a jovial laugh. He will be sorely missed.
Beloved husband of nearly 38 years to Marilyn Leung-Yong.
Visitation will be held on Friday February 28, 2025 beginning at 12:00 noon until 1:00pm at the Lucy Stone Chapel at Forest Hills Crematory, 171 Walk Hill Street, Boston. Private cremation will follow. Services provided under the compassionate care of Hamel-Lydon Chapel and Cremation Service of Massachusetts.
We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories of Kenneth Yong on our Tribute Wall.
