Mary Elizabeth Benoit, 67, of Quincy formerly of Dorchester, died peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, February 2, 2025, surrounded by the love, comfort and care of her family following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Dorchester where she was a communicant of St. Gregory’s parish, Mary attended St. Gregory’s school, graduating in 1975. She graduated from Framingham St. College (now Framingham State University) in 1979 with a degree as a Registered Dietitian working for many years at the former Carney Hospital before accepting positions with a long-term care facilities, the last of which being Alliance Health at Marina Bay .It was during her time at Carney Hospital that she met the love of her life, John, and the two were married in 1977, eventually settling in Quincy in 1981.
Mary was a very active member of St. Ann Church of Divine Mercy Parish in Quincy, helping in the various fundraising efforts and lending a hand in the kitchen whenever needed. She was also a longtime supporter and member of the North Quincy Football Boosters, having three sons who went through the North Quincy High football program.
For as much joy as she found in her work and church life, her favorite times were those spent with her loving family; especially her three grandchildren, whom she adored.
Loving daughter of James and Ann (Connor) Sheedy of Milton. Devoted wife of 47 years to John F. Benoit. Mother of Christine Getchell and her husband Nicholas of Hanson, John Benoit of Quincy, Joseph Benoit and his wife Shannon of Shrewsbury, and Michael Benoit and his wife Vanessa of Easton. Cherished grandmother of Dorothy Getchell, Ruth Getchell and Marilyn Benoit. Dear sister of Margaret Sheedy of Milton, Anne Marie Lynch and her husband John of Franklin and James Sheedy and his wife Joanne of Franklin. Also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
Memorial Visitation Tuesday February 11, 2025, from 9:00am -10:00am at Hamel-Lydon Chapel 650 Hancock St, Quincy, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30am in St. Ann Church, 757 Hancock Street, Quincy.
