Maryann Mahony Obituary

Maryann P. (Kettell) Mahony (86), passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025.

 Born in Jamaica Plain to Dorothy and Thomas Kettell. She was one of five children. Maryann lived and worked at Parley Vail Nursing Home in Jamaica Plains as a child before later residing in North Quincy. In 1959 she married John W. Mahony of Roxbury. In 1962 she gave birth to her only child, John D Mahony.

She grew up working hard and continued to do so until 2020. Maryann loved to lend helping hand and get involved in the community. She was co-president of the Quincy Foundation for Excellence in Education. A den leader for pack 190. She served as the Vice President of the Ward 6 Democratic Committee and ran for City Council for Ward 6. Maryann was a member of the Atlantic Neighborhood Association and Squantum Community Association. She also worked as a representative at Boston Gear, former Manager at Best Buy Catalog Showroom. Ultimately, Maryann retired from 1000 Southern Artery Senior Center where she enjoyed cooking for the residents.

She is predeceased by her loving husband John “Moe” W. Mahony, her parents Dorothy and Thomas. Her sister Shirley Kettell, and brothers Thomas Jr. and Richard Kettell.

Maryann leaves behind her son John “Jack” Mahony and his wife Julieann of Raymond, New Hampshire. Grandson and Caretaker Ryan Mahony of North Quincy, Granddaughter Morgan Folley and her husband Jakob, and Great Grandson Maverick of Columbus, Georgia. Maryann also leaves behind her sister Stephanie Peterson of West Weymouth, Brother-in-Law’s Francis Mahony of North Quincy, James Mahony of Quincy. Daughter-in-Law Cheryl McElman of Dorchester, Sister-in-Law Sally Kettell of Boston. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended Mahony/Kettell family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday April 18,2025, from 3:00pm-5:00pm at Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock Street Quincy Massachusetts 02170. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
