Matthew Currie, 41, of Quincy formerly of Weymouth passed away on June 9, 2021 following a short yet courageously-fought illness that was recently diagnosed. He was the devoted husband of Katie (Raftery) Currie.
Born and raised in Weymouth, he was the only son of Jay and Karen Sweeney of Weymouth.
Matt was very mechanically inclined, and he was a talented sheet metal fabricator by trade.
He enjoyed building precision model cars with exacting detail in his spare time, and he enjoyed sharing these creations with his family and friends.
Those who know Matthew best will remember him as a patient, good and kind man who loved children and animals, and was a die-hard New England sports fan; especially the Boston Celtics. He was always active and loved organizing family bike rides and outdoor walks. He relished his time spent teaching his children how to play sports, yet his favorite times were those spent enjoying the company of family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
In addition to his parents and the love of his life, Katie, Matt is survived by his adoring children Maya and Brendan Currie, whom he referred to lovingly as his “Little Monsters”. Dear Brother of Krystina Sweeney and Julie Ann Sweeney-Coelho & husband Jodrigo Coelho, all of Weymouth. Son-in-Law of the late Michael Raftery and his wife Kathleen Raftery of Quincy. Nephew of Cyndy Redmiles & her late husband Gary, Leonard & Kristen Cipullo, Steven & Michael Cipullo, Judy & John Watson, Janet & Brian Pelletier, James & Roberta Sweeney, and the late John Sweeney & his wife Rita. Brother-in-Law of David Raftery and his wife Lisa of Wayland, Bryan Raftery of Quincy and Meaghan Raftery Kaplan and her husband Chad Kaplan of Holbrook. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and good friends.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his Memorial Visitation on Wednesday June 16th from 10am—12noon at the Tirrell Room, 254 Quarry Street Quincy.
