Melvin Joseph “Mel” Antoine, of Rockland formerly of Quincy, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026 at age 75.
Born in Brookline, he was the son of the late Murwin and Anna (Brennan) Antoine of Quincy.
Mel’s life was centered on his family. He was the loving husband of Pauline Chew. Proud father of Michael Antoine and his wife Elisabeth of San Francisco, and David Antoine of Abington. His greatest joy was being “Papa” to his grandson, David James. Dear brother of Richard Antoine of Quincy, Ann Marie Antoine of Rockland, and Patricia and her husband Barry Milan of Rockland. He was predeceased by his brothers Michael and Robert. Also survived by his devoted brother-in-law, Dr. Paul H. Chew and sister-in-law Linda Chew of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, sister-in-law Helen Chew and brother-in-law Christopher Carroll of Squantum. He was a caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A proud veteran, Mel served his country with honor in the United States Navy. He went on to study at Northeast Institute of Technology and built a long career as an HVAC technician at Beth Israel Hospital in Brookline before retiring. He loved traveling, cherished his Quincy roots, and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—movies, tropical fish, cars, and coffee with friends. His warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.
Mel leaves behind his wife, sons, grandson, and extended family and dear friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital and mailed to: MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, Massachusetts 02114.
