Merrill Setler Sr. Obituary

Setler, Merrill F. Sr., 72, of Sandwich, passed away September 18, 2020. Merrill always said that he wanted people to know he died kicking and screaming with his first love as teenagers Alice Montagna and now wife of 9 years at his side.

Merrill loved God, life, family, friends, creation, golf, cooking readings L’Amour Books and Country Western music. He enjoyed many things especially helping anyone who needed help.  He was kind, loving, and generous with his time and skills.  He enjoyed traveling whether cruising to Alaska, Aruba, Norway or Bermuda.  He also enjoyed traveling the country in his RV 5th Wheel.

Merrill was born at Cape Cod Hospital on November 16, 1947 to Verl and Lucille (Gifford) Setler. He graduated from Barnstable Vocational High School, learning agricultural FFA Trade.

He was always interested in God’s Creation to help the environment.

Immediately after graduation Merrill enlisted into the Military Brank of the Army.  He served in Vietnam 1968-1969 as a Generator Operator Mechanic. Unfortunately became a Recipient of Agent Orange.  He loved his country and still trying to make a better life for all.

After receiving Honorable Discharge he married Inez (Landers) on 11/14/1969. Raised 2 step children and his 2 children Pamela and Rick.

His first occupation was working with is Brother-in-Law Randy Johnson for many years as a mason.  Next he worked as a mechanic for Airport Motors.  Then he joined his other Brother-in-Law Walter Schofield as a carpenter for S&S Construction.  After that he worked at LaidLaw School Bus out of Plymouth as a mechanic.  Then for Botello’s as a Diesel Mechanic alongside his son Rick. Unfortunately the effects of Agent Orange on his body, he had to retire early.

After studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and came to believe that Jehovah God along with His Son Jesus will beautify this early once again and have a United Worldwide Government (Kingdom).

Merrill reunited with Alice (Montagna Fardy) and they married on 7/11/2011. Merrill was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Kerry and his sister Karen Schofield.  Survived by sisters Judy Rickerson, Vercille Johnson and her husband Randy, his brother Bruce Selter and his wife Diane and his Brother-in-Law Walter Schofield.  Also survived by daughter Pamela Davis and her husband Wes, his son Rick Setler, Step-daugher Donna white, Step-son Danny White.  Grandfather of Karli Zella and her husband Mike, and Jack Dent.  Merrill had two great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In the future a Zoom Memorial will be held.
