Nancy Ellen Himml

Nancy Ellen Himml, 59, passed away on June 17, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the enduring love of family, friends, caregivers, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Born on December 29, 1966, in Framingham, Massachusetts, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Lois C. Himml of Beverly, Massachusetts, and the late Edward R. Himml. Throughout her life, she lived in Derry, New Hampshire, and in Lynn and Danvers, Massachusetts, touching countless lives with her warmth,humor, resilience, and infectious love of life.

Nancy's childhood was filled with adventures and time with family that she treasured throughout her life. She spent summers with her family at Nippo Lake in Barrington, New Hampshire, and attended Camp Arrowhead as a child in Natick, Massachusetts. Among her happiest memories were Saturdays spent at Marlboro Country Club, riding alongside her father in a golf cart as he played with his regular foursome. Those special times together remained with her after she lost her father in 2002.

Nancy loved to travel and embraced every opportunity to see the world. As a child, she journeyed to Lourdes, France. As a teenager, she traveled through the mountains of West Virginia, and as an adult enjoyed a cruise to Bermuda. Visiting Florida was probably her favorite, from visits to Tampa and Clearwater, to drives through the Florida Keys all the way to Key West.

Above all, Nancy loved Disney World. There she found a place where her wheelchair—and her irresistible charm—opened doors rather than closed them. She delighted in every aspect of the Disney experience and returned from each visit with stories, laughter, and memories she loved to recall. Disney embodied Nancy's approach to life: connecting with people even when they were strangers, embracing joy, welcoming adventure, and making the most of every moment.

Music was one of Nancy's greatest passions. She enjoyed attending concerts and seeing many of her favorite performers. Music brought her joy, inspiration, and connection, and she relished every opportunity to experience it live.

Nancy lived her entire life with cerebral palsy, but it never defined her or limited her engagement with the world around her. In 2012, she suffered a significant medical event that curtailed her ability to travel by airplane and introduced increasing health challenges. Yet even as her physical limitations grew and her health declined, Nancy never lost her love of life. She greeted each day with enthusiasm, appreciated every outing and visit, and continued to find happiness in the people and experiences she loved.

Nancy had a remarkable gift for making others feel special. Whether at Kennedy Day School, Crotched Mountain School, the Meridian Day Program, her group homes with Bridgewell or during hospital stays, she quickly became everyone's favorite. Her smile, sense of humor, genuine interest in others, and positive outlook left lasting impressions wherever she went. She formed meaningful connections with classmates, caregivers, medical professionals, friends, and family alike, enriching the lives of all who crossed her path. Her laughter, kindness, courage, and boundless appreciation for life's pleasures will continue to inspire all who knew her.

In addition to her mother, Lois, Nancy leaves behind her loving sisters, Laurie Himml (Paul Abel) and Susan Himml, both of Rockport, Massachusetts. She was a cherished aunt to Caroline Allen Habib (Paul), Isabella Scherbarth, and Nathaniel Allen. She also leaves an extended family that includes Cassandra and Cameron Abel, Joanne and Brianna Devlin, an uncle Hans-Manfred Milde of Bamburg Germany, several other cousins, and many dear friends.

Nancy was predeceased by her father, Edward R. Himml.

Nancy's life was a testament to perseverance, joy, and love. She taught those around her that happiness is found not in the absence of challenges but in embracing life fully despite them. Though she will be deeply missed, Nancy's spirit lives on in the memories she created, the friendships she nurtured, the music she loved, and the countless lives she touched. She will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.

A celebration of Nancy's life is being planned and will be announced at a later date through Hamel-Lydon Chapel.
