Othelia Hardemon Obituary

Othelia Elizabeth Hardemon, 80, lovingly known to so many as “Tina” and “Big Mama” died April 11, 2023 following a period of declining health.

Big Mama was born on March 4, 1943, to the late James Jones and Annie Jones.  She was the 10th child of twelve siblings. She was educated at the Glenn Burnie Public Schools of Maryland.

Shortly after graduating she met the love of her life, the late Joe David Hardemon.  Before long she and Joe moved to Boston, Massachusetts to start a family of their own. Big Mama gave birth to four children and had a career in office work as well as working with individuals with health disabilities.  Big Mama always treated her clients with respect and dignity. These were just a small example of the qualities she possessed. All those who knew Big Mama loved her very much!

Big Mama had a way of working on one’s nerves, but she would give you that warm smile and, in the end, she would always get her way. Big Mama sure loved her piping fried chicken and lobsters with plenty of butter. She was the queen and diva of the family. We will miss her dearly!

Big Mama had a saying she would tell us all; “Do it Jehovah’s way.” And that is what she did. Big Mama accepted Jehovah early in the 1970’s and she got baptized and faithfully serve him all the way up to the end when she fell asleep in death. Big Mama peacefully closed her eyes on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 11:15 am after courageously fighting several health issues.

Big Mama is survived by her last sibling, Helen Ballard of Baltimore, MD. 4 children; Linda Hardemon of Brockton, Joe Hardemon Jr of Baltimore, Jacqueline Hardemon of Brockton, and Wanda Cameron of Taunton. One daughter-in-law, Lanora Hardemon of Baltimore, two sons-in-law, Henry Cameron of Taunton and Thomas Kines of Brockton. Thirteen grandchildren, Moneisha Miller of Brockton, Dionne Hardemon of Boston, Sherrell, Shennell and Shantae Harris of Boston, Mareisha Hardemon of Brockton, Domonique Hardemon of Malden, Joseph Hardemon, lll of Baltimore, Joscelyn Petrus of Dedham, Jami Nicole Duterville of Weymouth, Jayshawn Hardemon of Baltimore, Jaysha Hardemon of Baltimore, and Malik Rogers of Brockton. Seventeen great-grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
