Paul Tyler-Mendez Obituary

Paul Wesley Tyler-Mendez, a resident of Maynard MA for 39 years, passed away on July 29, 2024 in Lincoln, MA at the age of 92. Born on November 14, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA. Paul served in the US Army, Germany, and earned an Occupation Medal and National Defense Service Medal . He was honorably discharged and continued as an Army Reservist with the UX Army Corps at Fort Devens, MA. He moved to Boston, MA where earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Engineering and Management with Honors and an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, highest honors, at Northeastern University while working at Stone & Webster as a draftsman. The majority of his career was in sales management, mainly at Century Data. He earned and maintained his Real Estate brokerage license for decades. He established the Wesley Tyler shop on Bearskin Neck, Rockport MA for several years with his then wife Charlotte Pike.

Paul was a member of the Anglican-Episcopal Church of the Advent in Boston where he married Ann Staffeld, also of Boston, in 1956. They had three daughters together. He served 60 years as a Mason with the Joseph Warren Soley Masonic Lodge of Lincoln, Mass. He retired after 20 years of dedicated service as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a member of the American Legion, and of the Maynard Rod & Gun Club. He loved arts and culture, supporting the Vokes Players Theatre, the Concord Orchestra, as well as the Boston Symphony and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He enjoyed the great outdoors: hiking with the Appalachian Mountain Club, and skiing with ski clubs in New Hampshire. He loved ballroom dancing, cooking, and was an avid traveler abroad including Hungary, USSR, Korea, Great Britain, and Europe. He was a collector of art and antiques. He dabbled in the stock market. He loved parties - attending and hosting. As an octogenarian, he loved the challenge of learning and playing the game of Bridge.

He leaves his daughters Rosalyn Mendez and Michelle Mendez, his niece Meily, newphew Alexander and his sister-in-law May Lin Mendez, and his grandsons William Hayes and Andrew Bloomberg. He leaves his former first wife Ann Staffeld and former second wife Charlotte Pike. He leaves his dear friends Stephen Tiechgraeber, Lena and Jim Harvey, who were dedicated to him through all his years with cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 10:30 AM, Church of the Advent, 30 Brimmer Street, Boston, MA with a private reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations
