Rita V. Mitchell (née O’Reilly), 79, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with COPD. She leaves behind her devoted husband, John “Jack” Mitchell of Quincy.
Rita was the cherished mother of Jack Mitchell and his wife, Lisa of Hanson, Jim Mitchell and his wife, Angela Dombroski of Medford, and Robyn Capone and her husband, Michael of Quincy. She was a treasured grandmother to Michael Luigi Capone, Audrey Capone, Jane Capone, Lucy Mitchell and her husband Gus Rivera, Calvin Mitchell, Tobin Mitchell, Cate Mitchell, Emma Mitchell and her husband Frank Reinhold, Shane Mitchell, and Sara Mitchell. She was also a loving step-grandmother to Chris Roberts, Ryan Marx, Eric Marx, and his wife, Trisha Marx, and Wayne Marx and his wife, Tina Marx. Rita will be deeply missed by her brother, Gerard O’Reilly, and her sister-in-law, Brenda O’Reilly. She was predeceased by her parents, James William O’Reilly and Rita Virginia O’Reilly, as well as her siblings, Mary Lou O’Reilly, James O’Reilly, Paul O’Reilly, and John O’Reilly.
A woman of deep faith, Rita prayed daily and was a long-standing member of St. Ann’s Church in Quincy. She found great solace in attending Holy Thursday services at St. Agatha’s Parish in Milton.
In 1967, Jack and Rita moved from Dorchester to Quincy to start their family. Rita's life in Quincy revolved around her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who cherished summer days on the Cape, with Chatham holding a special place in her heart later in life. She spent 30 years working as an accountant for Warren Forman, CPA. She loved numbers and helping people save money on their taxes. She and Jack traveled extensively in retirement, from Bermuda to Ireland and Paris. Rita enjoyed reading novels about Ireland and listening to Paul McCartney during her quiet moments.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Autumn Hospice, https://autumnhospice.com.
