Robert Radtke,87, of Athol formerly from Quincy, died peacefully on October 23,2024 after a brief illness. Robert “Sonny” was born on July 14,1937 the only and beloved son of Ferdinand and Anna Radtke. He is pre-deceased by his cousins- Fred Radtke, Nancy Radtke , and Eleanor Mcinnes. The Mathes family, especially Edith and Bill, were an important second family to Robert. He was very proud of his German roots.
Robert lived at Templeton Developmental Community in Templeton Ma. for many happy years. He enjoyed tending garden, visiting the cows in the dairy barn and enjoying a steak and a beer when visiting his cousins. In 2015, he made the big move to a group home in Athol, Ma.- where he thrived with new friends and a wonderful staff.
Robert had a personality and joy that radiated welcome to anyone he met. Everyday was Christmas and his room was fully decorated with a tree and lights throughout the year. He was a master collector- keys, shoehorns, calendars, ink pens, and stuffed animals- any size large or small.
He loved to travel anywhere – Cape Cod, Maine, Foxwoods. His favorite day trip was to Walmart , where he was on first name basis with most of the store employees. Robert was always ready to go- and spent most days fully dressed in tie, hat, jacket, scarf, bracelets , rings, and always a watch . He had style. He was loved and will be missed. The Radtke family is especially grateful to the wonderful staff at Dana Street Athol. Their care, especially the last few weeks will always be appreciated.
Funeral services are private. Robert will be buried at Mount Wollaston, Quincy, with his parents.
