Roger Kwan 關振國

Roger Kwan, 73, of Lexington passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after courageously battling nasopharyngeal cancer for over a year.  

Born January 11, 1949 in Guangzhou, China, Roger was the youngest son of Lin Oi Mak Kwan and Wai Chung Kwan’s six children.  He made his way to Hong Kong with his family, where he started working as a street peddler at the age of 9 while still going to school.  He spent his formative years developing a passion for carpentry, English and electronics.  Using those skills, he started a career as a traveling television repairman for Sony.  This job would eventually allow him to emigrate to Canada in the early 70’s on a skilled worker visa.  On advice from his family, he moved to the Boston area to work as a waiter in West Yarmouth.  It was in Boston where he met his wife, Kitty, and they were married on June 16, 1975.  Shortly after, Roger and his family returned to Toronto.  After a series of independent entrepreneurial ventures, he earned his GED and a real estate license.  Roger was a top home seller in metro Toronto, but only for a short time because Boston was calling again.

In 1983, Roger’s brothers and sisters asked him to return and join them in a family restaurant.  Roger, Kitty and their family would settle in Lexington.  For the next 18 years, he would make an hour-long commute to the restaurant in Gardner many times a week.  After a successful restaurant career, he again shifted gears and became a successful serial entrepreneur, selling massage beds, health products and phone accessories on the Internet.  

In his spare time, Roger was proud to build, remodel and add additions to their family homes. His friends and family knew he was always a phone call away and had the ability to fix a myriad of things as he was skilled in various fields from carpentry to plumbing to tiling to electronics.  He was an awe-inspiring resource to many.  Roger was also the family documentarian, a camera, camcorder or smartphone was always in his hand recording important events.  He loved chasing around his 4 grandchildren and snapping candid photos of them.  When he wasn’t fixing homes or computers, Roger and his beloved wife of 47 years would be traveling all over Asia and Europe with family and extended family.  

Roger was a gregarious, kind and generous soul who was never afraid of helping out or offering advice.  He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending all his time with his family.   

Roger will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Kitty and their two children, Jeff Kwan and wife Thu of Lexington, Kelly Cheng and husband Wai Yin, also of Lexington, and 4 grandchildren, Owen, Oliver, Alice and Theo.  He is also survived by his brothers, Chun Hung Kwan, Ricky Kwan and Harry Kwan.  He is predeceased by his sisters Jenny Lee and Yu Mei Kuan Pai.

Funeral arrangements and services are under the care of Hamel-Lydon Chapel. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St, Arlington, MA on Thursday, June 23rd from 9:00 am to 11:30am.  A procession will follow to Westview Cemetery, Lexington from the funeral home at 12pm.

父親關振國1949年1月11日出生於中國廣州市，他是關槐聰和關麥年愛六個孩子最小的兒子。小時候隨家人移居到香港。在上學期間，他九歲就開始分擔家中經濟生活做街頭小販。年輕時的他對木工，電子產品 ，英文特別有興趣，經過努力學習和工作，之後在Sony 公司任職電視修理員。70年代初，以技術移民簽證獲得移民到加拿大，因與家人團聚再移居到美國波士頓。在波士頓做餐廳服務工作，並邂逅到妻子黃國蘭女士並於1975年6月16日結婚。不久之後他與家人回到加拿大多倫多，經過努力學習與工作，在多倫多GED獲得房地產許可證，而且還是一位很優秀的房地產經紀。

1983年他的兄妹再次邀請他回頓士頓一起開家庭中餐廳。他和家人就開始在Lexington 定居。隨後的18年，他每天都開車一小時到餐廳工作。 他勤勤懇懇去經營好餐廳的工作，使餐廳做得很成功。餐廳結業後，他再度創業成為一名成功的創業者。銷售健康按摩床，在互聯網上銷售醫療保健產品和手機配件産品等。

在業餘時間，他很自豪去建造和改造自己的住宅，全都是自己親力親為，使家人生活得更舒適。他更是家人，朋友的好知己，他很友善並很樂意去 幫助家人及朋友。每逢別人遇到任何困難或大小事情，他都有求必應，盡能力去幫助解決。尤其精於木工，水電，瓷磚和電子產品等䓁的問題。對許多人來說，他是一個很令人敬佩的資源。

他熱愛家庭，關心子女，愛護兒孫。喜歡用攝錄機，智能手機，紀錄重要的時刻和4個孫兒的成長。空閒時會攜帶同他一起生活度過47年的愛妻和家人去亞洲，歐洲各地旅遊，享受大自然的美景。他是一位熱愛家庭的好丈夫和愛護兒女的好爸爸， 更是一位和藹可親的爺爺和公公。

勇敢地治療鼻咽癌年多後，在至愛的家人陪同下， 於2022年6月13日在家中安詳與世長辭。

由安泰殯儀館負責葬禮安排和服務。遺體現停 Keefe 殯儀舘 (5 Chestnut St, Arlington, MA), 謹定於六月二十三日(星期四)上午九時開祭同正午十二時出殯安上 Westview Cemetery, Lexington, MA 自置壽地.
