Roy Sylvia Obituary

Roy Sylvia, 83, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024.  He was born at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Massachusetts, to James and Margaret (nee Haskell) Sylvia, Roy was part of the Silent Generation.  Roy spent his childhood and younger years in the Village of Monument Beach, Massachusetts, until moving to Boston in 1960.  It was in Boston that Roy would begin his storied career as an anesthesia technician at New England Baptist Hospital, making countless friends, and putting smiles on the faces of everyone he met, until his retirement 38 years later in 2003.

It was also in Boston where Roy would meet his cherished friend Mary Cocuzzo and his partner of 28 years, David Andersen.  Roy and David spent many happy years together traveling and enjoying life until David's passing in 2014.  It was during their years together that Roy stumbled across North Conway, New Hampshire by chance, falling in love with the White Mountains.  He and David treasured their experiences in North Conway for many years together.  After David's passing, Roy continued to visit North Conway and began staying at the School House Inn and developed a lasting friendship with the property owners, the Bellini Family.  Roy spent many afternoons at the Bellini's Family home listening to doo-wop music, playing cards, and talking about classic cars and history.  He even jokingly became an honorary Italian-American during his friendship with the Bellini's, spending countless holidays and Italian meals together, and learning a lot about their culture.  Roy was an avid car enthusiast, loved cooking for his neighbors, traveling, and spending time with his many friends.

In addition to his beloved partner David Andersen, he is predeceased by his siblings Patricia, James Jr., and Robert.  He will be greatly missed.  At Roy's request, services in Boston will be private.
