Rudolf (“Rudy”) G. Brautigam passed from this earth, and the life that he loved, on January 22, 2021 at 90 years of age.
Born in Amsterdam, February 24, 1930, the third of five children, Rudy spent his formative years growing up in Nazi-occupied Holland. At war’s end, after high school Rudy went to New York University on scholarship, he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering and attended Columbia University and Rutgers University for graduate studies. He had a long and distinguished career with Union Carbide in the United States and Europe.
Rudy lived in Dorchester, Massachusetts for over 30 years, the last 20 of which with his Life partner Jon Guttmacher with whom he shared a love of classical music, art, competitive bridge, tennis, and swimming.
He was predeceased by his partner Jon Guttmacher, his former wife Trudy, his son Curtis, his brother Frank, and sister Jeannette Brautigam Braam.
Rudy is survived by his siblings Leo Brautigam (Ann Fox) of Dartmouth Massachusetts, Mary Brautigam Merle of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and by his daughter Corrine (Galen Silver) of Rochester, N.Y and five grandchildren.
He will be missed by his bridge club in Braintree and by the Dutch bridge players.
