Ruth Kearns Obituary

Ruth Jane Kearns, 84 of Quincy, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Milton Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth J. Kearns who passed on January 10, 2012. She was the sister of Frances Colby of Manchester, NH, Elizabeth Brown of Quincy, MA and Theresa Duffy of Stoughton, MA and her sister-in-law Jean Taylor of Weymouth, MA. She was pre-deceased by her brother Timothy Taylor, Francis Colby, James Brown and Bruce Duffy, Sr. She leaves her nieces and nephews: Kathryn, James, Mary and John Colby, Kathleen, Timothy, Deborah, Pauline and Thomas Taylor, Maryanne, Catherine, Susan and Tricia Brown, Barbara, Donna, Bruce, Patricia, Cheryl and David Duffy. She also leaves behind several great and great-great nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Kearnsy. She also leaves behind her childhood friend Sally.

She was a devout Catholic and very faith filled and a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Quincy. Her faith was very strong, and it showed in her everyday life. She looked forward to the day when she would reunite with her beloved Freddie and the Lord. She knew what was waiting for her when she went to heaven. She passed on The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. She would attend Mass daily and looked forward to Glory Nights on Wednesdays with Father Tom DiLorenzo.

She was the catalyst of many family members to deepen their faith and spirituality. She made a very large impact on her niece Patricia's faith when they attended a retreat to Canada in 1994, which resulted in her being Patricia's sponsor when she was confirmed at the Easter Vigil that following spring.

She and Fred never had children; however, her home was always filled with love, laughter and compassion. They were known as Auntie and Uncle Freddy to all the Duffy children's friends. She enjoyed watching the Patriots, classic movies, going to the beach to listen to music. She enjoyed a good joke.

Her niece would like to thank Michelle, Bob and John and Liz Bell, Mark Millane and Dan Minton who lived down the street and checked in on her and helped her out as needed. She will be greatly missed and remembered lovingly by her family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, Quincy, January 9, 2026.  Visiting hours Thursday 4-6 PM in the Hamel-Lydon Chapel, 650 Hancock St., Quincy.  Burial Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
