In Loving Memory of Sean D. Loughrey
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Son and Brother, Sean, who left us far too soon yet peacefully on May 3, 2025. Sean was surrounded by the deep love and comfort of his family.
Beloved son of Joyce and the late John Loughrey. Cherished brother to Kristen and her husband Nicholas (DellaGrotta), Siobhan and her husband Trevor (Gardner) and proud Uncle to nephews Declan, Jack, Cullen, Cameron and Nevan. Sean was a dear nephew and cousin to many. Survived by his daughter, Isabelle.
Born and raised in Boston, Sean carried his hometown pride with him everywhere he went. A true son of the city and a devoted Boston sports fan, he lived and breathed Red Sox seasons, Patriots Sundays, Celtics wins, and Bruins grit—always ready with sharp sports commentary that was as insightful as it was passionate. He was also a dedicated fan of many other sports, including NASCAR, golf, and rugby—traveling to numerous NASCAR races and following every lap with enthusiasm.
Deeply proud of his Irish-American family and heritage, Sean embodied a quick Irish wit and sense of humor—sharp, clever, and well-timed—and had the ability to bring laughter to even the toughest of crowds.
Sean was an avid lover of music, especially Irish music, which connected him deeply to his heritage. His music knowledge was broad and impressive, spanning many genres and generations. Nothing brought him more joy than an enthusiastic Irish song sing-along—whether at a family gathering, or with a few close friends. Music was a source of joy, comfort, and connection throughout his life, and he loved sharing favorite bands, songs and the stories behind them.
He was a lifelong learner, a voracious reader, and a history buff. You could often find him with a book in hand or watching a multi-part documentary on the History Channel—always ready to share an interesting fact or two.
His love of the outdoors began early, nurtured through many memorable years as a Boy Scout. Camping trips and the memories he made around campfires under the stars were some of his most treasured.
In more recent years, Sean discovered a new passion: cooking. With his typical curiosity he taught himself techniques, recipes, and found joy in the kitchen. Cooking became a way for him to express love and creativity—especially when preparing meals for family gatherings and special occasions.
We will remember Sean for his Irish pride, his humor, his love of stories—both written and lived—and above all, the laughter.
Though he may be gone from our sight, he will live in our hearts—in a favorite song, a Boston game, a St. Patrick's Day celebration, a gathering around a campfire, a baked ziti—and a shared laugh.
