Shi Fang Ruan, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
He was born on November 11,1929 in Toisan, China to Sic Jong Ruan & Lau Guay Lee. He received his education in China, where he worked as a school teacher, music teacher, volleyball coach, and eventually becoming a vice principal. He was sought out by many for his talent in Chinese calligraphy.
He arrived in the US in 1987, and became a cook at 4 Seas Restaurant in Boston's Chinatown before retiring. He was very active and well respected within the Asian community, serving as once a President with the Goon Shee Association and a Secretary of the Chinese Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed being involved in the life events of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always ready with his camera to capture life's precious moments to proudly display in his home. This dapper great-grandfather usually donned a collared shirt, blazer, and a clean hair cut that he insists on getting biweekly. Shi Fang always looked forward to his Monday lunches at Asian Garden, and Tuesday dinners with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. With the biggest and most caring heart for his family and friends he was loved by many. Shi Fang truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, a good game of Mahjong, delicious dim sum, and just spending time with his family.
He is survived and loved dearly by his 3 sons, 3 daughters, 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
