Nutley, Thomas J., age 97, died on Saturday, January 18, 2025 . He was born in Brighton and raised in the Back Bay. He lived the past 55 years in Quincy. Son of the late William Nutley and Winifred (Buckley). He was one of 14 siblings, predeceased by Esther, Joan, Corinne, Margaret, Catherine, Patricia, Barbara, Jean, and John, William, Jr., Francis, Joseph, and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Rita and three children: Lisa Van Brunt of New Jersey and her three children Avery, Auden, and Evangeline, Jennifer and her husband Rob Ilacqua of Quincy and their four children Mackenzie, Cooper, Riley, and Madeline, and Tom, Jr., and his companion Jessica Lambert of Milton, MA, and their daughter Elena.
He was a late World War II Army veteran and served in Korea. Tom worked in construction for many years and later was employed for 38 years at Boston Gas as Director of Community and Local Government Relations. Following his retirement, he served as a volunteer for several years at the United Way, and, later, worked as the General Manager of the Armed Services YMCA in Charlestown. He was active in numerous civic and business organizations including The American Legion and the Back Bay Knights of Columbus, Quincy Community Action, West Roxbury Rotary, etc. He served for 34 years on the board of directors of the Armed Services YMCA providing housing and services to low-income military personnel. He was a sports fan and loved playing golf. Tom was elected to the Quincy City Council and served for six years representing the northern areas of the city.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours, Saturday, February 8th, from 10:00am-11:30am at the Hamel-Lydon funeral home at 650 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02170. Memorial Service from 11:30am-12:00pm and a private reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to the Quincy Community Actions Programs, Inc., 1509 Hancock St., Quincy, MA 02169.
