In Loving Memory of Vladimir
We come together to celebrate the remarkable life of Vladimir, a man whose legacy is woven with threads of ambition, humor, and unwavering love. As Nadezhda, my mother, Sveta, my sister, and I, Masha, reflect on his life, we are struck by the profound truth that the essence of a person is not just in the grand milestones but in the everyday moments that define them.
Born in Ukraine, Vladimir’s journey began on a farm with his grandfather, a man whose influence shaped him deeply. From the tender age of three, Vladimir was immersed in a world of hard work, learning the rhythms of life through farming, fishing, chess, and poker. These early lessons, infused with the wisdom of his grandfather, stayed with him throughout his life. They later became not just hobbies but integral parts of his identity, cherished and shared with everyone he loved, especially his daughters, Sveta and me, Masha, and his grandchildren.
Fishing was not just a pastime for Vladimir; it was a passion that defined him. From the rivers of Komi Republic to the shores of Novgorod, he cast his line into the waters with a dedication that brought him countless awards and, more importantly, countless moments of joy. Fishing taught him patience and perseverance, qualities he carried into every aspect of his life.
His intellectual curiosity led him to Leningrad State University, where he received a degree in math and physics. Living through challenges of USSR, Vladimir and his newly wed wife Nadezda, gave birth to their first daughter, Svetlana in 1977 and their second daughter, Masha in 1983. Vladimir worked as chief engineer in one of the biggest factories in Novgorod at the time.
His entrepreneurial spirit emerged in the post-Soviet era, as he ventured into business, founded “Medinfo,” and pursued a diverse range of projects including founding a publishing company, a pharmacy and multiple schools. His drive was not just for personal success but for the betterment of those around him, always eager to teach and share his knowledge.
When Vladimir and Nadezda, his devoted wife, realized their dream of owning a home, gardening became a new passion. His garden flourished under his care, reflecting his love for growth and beauty. It was a testament to his belief that nurturing something, whether plants or people, brings the greatest joy.
Vladimir and Nadezda became US Residents in 2015 and took several trips to the US and really enjoyed the culture and most importantly, the people. Even though he was distant from his business ventures in Russia, his intellectual brilliance was evident in his remarkable success with day trading.
In 2019, Nadezda, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body dementia and the disease progressed very quickly. Vladimir was with her day and night, denying any help, and caring for her needs even when she became a bedridden patient. His love carried her through, and she is alive still.
Unfortunately, a terrible disease came into Vladimir’s life summer 2022. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After a massive surgery, numerous chemotherapy sessions and radio therapy treatments, he lost his battle to cancer on August 20th, 2024. He was 70 years old. Vladimir faced his battle with cancer with the same resilience he applied to everything else, outliving projections and continuing to engage with life as best.
Vladimir spent his last months of life with his daughter, his son-in-law, Jai and newly born granddaughter Mira in Dover, MA. Till the last days he tried to be active as much as he could, including working on the backyard and even trading stocks.
As we remember Vladimir, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the weight of loss. His humor, his intelligence, his kindness—these are the gifts he leaves behind. They are the true measure of his life.
Vladimir will be missed profoundly by all who had the privilege to know him. But in our hearts and in the stories, we share, he will live on, reminding us that the most enduring legacies are those of love, laughter, and the pursuit of our passions.
Vladimir is survived by his mother Maria, wife Nadezda, daughters Sveta and Masha, grandchildren Liza, Vova and Mira. Dad, we love you and we miss you very much.
